So, it's 730 right now and I'm sitting outside of my front door because I have 6 people inside still sleeping and, frankly, after going to a strength training class at my gym, I'm just hungry....not tired. At least not yet. Give me a few hours when everyone is waking up and I'll be falling asleep- I'm sure!
Anyway, another day of waking up at 530am (I actually got out of the house within 15 minutes of waking!!) and going to my gym. I am learning to love my gym. It's free (that part is easy to love), the hours may not be amazing (it's at my church, so Sundays-closed, any holiday and the day before-closed or closed so early that it may as well be closed), but it has classes that are only $1.50 each session (which is $12 a month for the class that I want- still cheaper than my last gym!). Also, because I'm attending a HUMONGOUS church....the gym is big!
Okay, strength training class today. I woke up STILL sore from my leg workout on Tuesday, BUT I could walk normally and I completely underestimated this class because I really didn't think that it would hurt as much. But, hurt it did. Wow... Everyone was really friendly and we just moaned the entire way while this cute older lady KICKED OUR ASSES.
We did lunges, squats, ham curls, lots of ab workouts, rows.....etc...it was full body in 50 minutes of hell. My legs were like jello walking up the stairs to the condo! This is definitely going to hurt tomorrow...
Good news though! Since it's a holiday, the gym is closed!! ;-) This is where the inconvenient hours actually help.
I'll probably just do the video tomorrow to kind of "work out" that lactic acid from the muscles.
:)
The class ended with a devotional while we were doing our last stretches. That was interestingly wonderful.
Happy New Year Everyone!! 2009 was good, but 2010 will be GREAT!
Thank you, Lord.

I will call them liars.....
You know those people that always tell you, "The way to stop soreness is to workout.....it'll get the lactic acid out of your muscles faster....etc.." blah, blah, blah. Well, I will point to those said people and yell out loud, "Liars!" At least, for NOW I'll say that........I might change my tune tomorrow when my legs aren't sore anymore and I can walk again....but today I will judge!
Moving on...... Yesterday I did a legs workout with free weights. Since I'm on vacation right now, I'm pretty much able to go to the gym at the same time as housewives and that has made my workouts a little more interesting. See, normally, I'm working out with a bunch of strong guys or gals that look at me as though my fat butt shouldn't be taking up so much space in the free weight section of the gym......but, going at 1030 in the morning leaves the free weight section completely free for me to use.....BUT, I have to pay the price of having about 6 ladies huddled together around the hip abductor machine watching me and whispering.
Sometimes I wonder what they are saying. Maybe they are commenting on how big my biceps are.....or most likely how big everything else is. Either way, they are always surprised when I do things like Dead Lifts (which is the exact reason I'm so sore, by the way), Walking Lunges or Squats holding weights. Half the time, I wonder if they have seen anyone in the free weight section at all. I walked in yesterday and I swear I saw tumbleweed roll across the bench press....
So, after working out, I progressively became more and more tender as the day passed. Eventually I had trouble (more like I whined a lot) walking up the stairs after bowling with my parents. Vlad had no sympathy. He told me that I should do cardio today to "work out" the soreness......going back to the beginning of this blog; I point and call him a liar.
I woke up this morning at 530am, sat up for about 15 minutes, changed clothing for about 10 minutes, sat on the couch for another 15 minutes, drank some water for 10 minutes and finally decided it was time to go to the gym and do that leg-saving cardio.

This is what I did. It's called the Octane-something or other. All I know is that it's the bane of my cardio existence. I did it for thirty minutes and it kept changing levels on me! I'm pretty sure I set it to do that, but I will resent it anyway.
Here's what's funny (funny weird, not funny ha-ha), I'm not sure what was harder: working out for 30 minutes straight on cardio without stopping (which I hardly ever do-I normally do something like intervals) or staring at the same spot on the wall, in the same room, for 30 minutes. Hmmmm......either way, I completed.
Do not be deceived by this picture- I am NOT that happy in the morning. It's just that I can't feel anything below my waist at this point..... My butt, hamstrings, quads and even calves are numb right there. But, don't worry, the pain came back shortly after I got out of my car and just in time to walk up my stairs again. Yippee.
Oh yeah, here's the scripture that I kept repeating to myself when I was tired....
"Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the One who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you."
Deut. 31:6

How laptops help you lose weight......
So, I have all these guests staying with me for the week and I've been worried that I won't consistently work out........and that's pretty much because I will latch onto ANY reason not to work out.
But, two things have happened. First, I just got a laptop. Secondly, I've been using this interval workout on DVD that has been kicking my ass. So, while I knew that I couldn't work out in my living room this week......I simply took my laptop and DVD to our little (tiny, miniscule) work out room that my complex has and kicked some DVD ass. It was awesome!
Also, this DVD is NOT your mama's DVD. It is killing me! Everything is sore!
Anyway, the new year is going to have a lot in store for me. Vlad is going to meet my extended family for the first time in March and we both want to look awesome! So, it looks like we're going to be hitting everything hard......fun times!
This blog SHOULD be updated DAILY..... ;-)

talk about being lazy!!!!
The good news.......I haven't gained any weight
The bad news........I haven't lost any weight
Alright, so in the mornings, I've started again to get back in the habit. Starting small.....
So, I'm doing a DVD created by Shape Magazine called "The 20 Minute Makeover" (yes, I know, sounds terribly cheesy)
It's actually interval training for 20 minutes with another 40 minutes of add ons that you can do to be more body part specific.
Just the intervals are pretty awesome. I was so sore after my first day that I was walking weird. It's intense cardio for 2-4 minutes, then strength training in between.
Now, just to get back in the gym. With the holidays, it has been more difficult than I thought.
Got To Get Motivated!!!!

damn flags.....
Yes, I know, I have been neglecting my workouts and blogging lately. But, I'm back!
First, a story....I THOUGHT yesterday that I would try to see if working out in the afternoons after work would be nice and that maybe I would change my morning schedule......ummmm, no.
I went to the gym yesterday after work and I couldn't find parking! EVERY SINGLE MACHINE was taken by cheerleaders from the local highschool and every weight was taken up by the local basketball team. And then there were parents!! It was horrible! It took me an hour and a half to not even complete my workout! I will never go there again in the afternoon.
So, I went this morning to finish what I started yesterday....the combination of yesterday and today is:
2x15 15lbs bicep curls (you guys DO know that it's 15lbs in each hand right?)
2x15 30lbs triceps extensions
2x15 10lbs lateral raises
1x10 30lbs lunges -I couldn't finish these because the damn basketball players were all up in my grill!
2x15 10lbs stiff leg dead lifts
2x15 back extensions (Alex, you were totally right, the pad was too high last time. Thanks!)
3x15 80lbs seated press
2x15 30lbs pulley row
2x10 my modified dragon flags
2x15 frog kicks (these were SO hard to do after the flags)
1x 1 minute plank and then 1 x30 second plank. Ummm, super hard.
2x15 ab crunches that involve throwing a 6lb medicine ball.
(abs were split between the two days....don't be thinking that I have abs of steel to be able to do all of that in a row!! )
10 minutes of hard running intervals. I kicked up the intensity today and I was REALLY feeling it- tried to make it to 15 minutes, but my body wasn't having it. Gotta get there!

It felt great to be back in.
side note: while I've been exercising, I figured that I would try to change one habit at a time. Now, that I've grown to at least LIKE working out, today is the day that I seriously kicked my diet into high gear. My body (namely my psyche- because I'm eating plenty) is not very happy with me right now. Wow, how clearly my addiction to sugary and ultra starchy foods has come out! Jeez.

small muscle, big pull
Yesterday I took Rosy to the gym with me and it was GREAT! I didn't realize how much of a motivating impact music would have on my workout......
3x15 45lbs(bar) bench press
2x15 20lbs bicep curls
3x15 25lbs tricep pull downs
3x13 (I can't seem to make it to 15!) 10lbs lateral raises
3x15 70lbs lat pull downs
2x20 5lbs russian twist
3x15 frog kicks
and here's the kicker... 2x15 5lbs back extensions.....somewhere in the middle of this, I pulled an itty bitty back muscle that apparently plays a very big role in daily living....
so....only 4 minutes of interval running passed before I realized that I *pulled* the muscle instead of just worked it out.
Good going, Vivian.
Now, I'm going to take a couple of days off to relax and heal up. dangit.
